Dental lasers let us do a lot of the same work as a drill or scalpel, but with less noise, less vibration, and — for many procedures — less need for anesthetic. Some patients get through a filling without a shot at all.
We use lasers on both hard tissue (removing decay, preparing teeth for fillings or crowns) and soft tissue (trimming gum tissue, treating periodontal pockets). The laser seals as it works, which typically means less bleeding and faster healing for soft-tissue procedures.
Laser dentistry is an option for most patients, including kids. If you’ve been avoiding treatment because you don’t like the sound of the drill or the feeling of an injection, it’s worth asking whether lasers would work for your specific procedure.
